Microdermabrasion in Zurich - Gentle mechanical exfoliation for refined skin

Microdermabrasion is a proven mechanical exfoliation method in which the top layer of skin is gently and carefully removed using extremely fine microcrystals. This gentle method refines the complexion, stimulates microcirculation and makes the skin particularly receptive to subsequent active ingredients. At Aesthetics Medical in Zurich, we use modern microdermabrasion technology for visibly smoother, fine-pored and radiant skin.

The principle is simple and effective: small microcrystals are applied to the skin at high speed, loosening the upper, dead skin cells. At the same time, these are sucked away by a vacuum pump. This process immediately refines the skin's appearance, reduces fine lines and stimulates the skin's own collagen and elastin production. Afterwards, individually tailored active ingredients can be applied deep into the prepared skin to achieve maximum effect.

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a mechanical exfoliation procedure that was developed in the 1980s and is one of the most popular non-invasive skin treatments worldwide. The principle: controlled mechanical removal of the top layer of skin.

How it works: Fine microcrystals – usually made of aluminium oxide or medical corundum – are applied to the skin at high speed. These act like tiny abrasive particles and remove dead skin cells. At the same time, a vacuum pump sucks up the loosened skin flakes. The combination of abrasion (removal) and suction has several positive effects:

1. Exfoliation: The top layer of skin is evenly removed. Dead, keratinised skin cells that make the skin look dull are removed. The result: fresh, new and radiant skin.

2. Pore refinement: The vacuum technology cleanses the pores deeply. Sebum, dirt and deposits are sucked out of the pores, refining them and making them less visible.

3. Microcirculation: The mechanical exfoliation combined with the vacuum stimulates microcirculation and blood flow in the skin. The skin is better supplied with oxygen and nutrients, the metabolism is activated and regeneration is accelerated.

4. Collagen stimulation: Controlled mechanical stimulation activates the fibroblasts – the cells responsible for the production of collagen and elastin. This leads to long-term improvement in skin structure, greater elasticity and firming.

Areas of application: Microdermabrasion is ideal for flaky, dull skin, blemishes, acne scars, enlarged pores, fine lines, wrinkles and for general skin refinement.

Important: Every skin is individual. The intensity is adjusted to your skin type, skin thickness and needs.

Why choose microdermabrasion at Aesthetics Medical?

  • Proven mechanical method: Microdermabrasion is a procedure that has been tried and tested for decades and does not involve any aggressive chemicals. This purely mechanical method is particularly gentle and well tolerated by most skin types.

  • Immediately visible results: Unlike many other treatments, you will see results immediately after the first session. Your skin will be smoother, finer, radiant and feel supple. The effect intensifies with each subsequent treatment.

  • Deep cleansing of the pores: The combination of crystal abrasion and vacuum suction cleanses the pores deeply. Sebum, dirt and deposits are effectively removed – for permanently finer pores and clearer skin.

  • Stimulation of natural regeneration: Mechanical stimulation activates the body's own collagen and elastin production. You benefit not only from immediate effects, but also from a continuous improvement in skin structure over several weeks.

  • Versatile: Microdermabrasion successfully treats a wide range of skin problems, from acne scars and enlarged pores to fine lines and dull skin. One treatment for many needs.

Microdermabrasion treatment procedure

1. Consultation & preparation

We analyse your skin type, skin texture and specific skin problems. Your skin is thoroughly cleansed and the skin surface is degreased so that the peel can be fully effective.

2. Mechanical peeling with microcrystals

The actual microdermabrasion begins: using a special handpiece, fine microcrystals are applied to your skin at high speed. These act like microscopic abrasive particles, removing dead skin cells and creating a slight grinding sensation – many patients even find this pleasantly massaging. At the same time, a vacuum pump immediately sucks up the loosened skin cells together with the crystals used. This vacuum creates a slight suction on the skin.

3. Multiple treatment passes & application of active ingredients

Depending on your skin type and the intensity of the treatment, several passes are made over the treated areas. After mechanical exfoliation, your skin is optimally prepared – we then apply active ingredients tailored to your individual needs (serums, ampoules, brightening products or soothing masks), which penetrate deep into the skin and take effect.

4. Soothing final treatment

Finally, a soothing, moisturising treatment is applied. Your skin will feel smooth, supple and refreshed. The complexion is immediately refined and the skin glows.

5. Aftercare instructions & series

You will receive detailed instructions for home care. It is important to use sunscreen with SPF 50+ every day, especially if you are prone to hyperpigmentation. Slight redness or a slight burning sensation may occur for a few hours after the treatment – this is normal and will subside within 1-2 days.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions

No, microdermabrasion is painless and is generally considered pleasant. You will feel a slight abrasive sensation and gentle suction on the skin, which many patients even describe as massaging and relaxing. The treatment is not unpleasant.

The results are visible immediately after the first treatment. Your skin is smoother, finer, radiant and feels supple. With each subsequent treatment in a series, the effects intensify – pores become increasingly finer, scars milder and fine lines reduced.

For optimal and lasting results, we recommend a series of 6-8 treatments at intervals of 2-4 weeks. For minor skin problems, 4-6 sessions may be sufficient, while more may be needed for pronounced scars or calluses. We will create a personalised treatment plan for you.

No, there is no downtime. You can resume your normal activities immediately after treatment. Your skin may be slightly reddened, but this usually subsides within a few hours. You are immediately socially presentable.

Microdermabrasion is suitable for most skin types. It is particularly effective for normal to oily skin, enlarged pores, blemishes, acne scars, dull skin and fine lines. Caution is advised for very sensitive skin or active skin conditions – we will advise you individually.

Microdermabrasion is a mechanical exfoliation method that does not use chemicals. It works purely physically with microcrystals. Chemical exfoliants use acids to remove the skin. Both methods have their advantages – microdermabrasion is particularly gentle, easy to control and suitable for most skin types.

Yes, microdermabrasion can significantly improve acne scars and sunken scars. Controlled abrasion of the uppermost layers of skin smooths the skin's surface and reduces scar tissue. For pronounced scars, several treatments (6–10 sessions) are usually necessary to achieve optimal results.

Yes, definitely. The combination of mechanical exfoliation and vacuum suction deeply cleanses the pores. Sebum, dirt and deposits are removed, refining the pores and making them less visible. With regular use, the pores remain refined in the long term.

Avoid strong sunlight and solariums for one week. Use sunscreen with SPF 50+ every day, especially if you are prone to hyperpigmentation. Care for your skin with mild, moisturising products. Avoid aggressive exfoliants or irritating products in the first few days.

The most common reactions are slight redness, mild irritation or a slight burning sensation – these are normal and desirable. The skin may feel warm or tight for up to two days after treatment. These reactions are temporary and will subside on their own.

Ideally, you should refrain from wearing make-up on the day of treatment so that your skin can breathe. You can apply make-up again from the following day. If possible, use mineral make-up, which does not clog the pores.

Yes, excellent. Microdermabrasion removes dead skin cells and intensively stimulates blood circulation in dull, matt or flaky skin. The skin immediately appears fresher, more radiant and has a healthy glow. Even after the first treatment, the skin looks more radiant.

Yes, microdermabrasion can be combined very well with other treatments. It is particularly effective when combined with mesotherapy, LED light therapy or special cosmetic treatments. After exfoliation, active ingredients can penetrate optimally.

The treatment should not be carried out in cases of active skin infections, herpes, rosacea in the acute stage, very sensitive or irritated skin, fresh wounds, immediately after sunburn or during pregnancy if you have very sensitive skin. We will clarify during the consultation whether the treatment is suitable for you.

The immediate effects (smooth, radiant skin) last for around 2–4 weeks. The long-term improvements resulting from collagen stimulation develop over several weeks and months. With regular refresher treatments (every 4–6 weeks), the results are permanent.
