Fruit acid peels in Zurich – Effective chemical peels for clear skin

Fruit acid peels and chemical peels are among the most effective methods for the aesthetic dermatological treatment of a wide variety of skin problems. These proven procedures use active ingredients such as glycolic acid, mandelic acid, salicylic acid or trichloroacetic acid to remove the top layer of dead skin cells and regenerate the skin from within. At Aesthetics Medical in Zurich, we offer a variety of chemical peels – individually tailored to your skin type and needs.

The controlled exfoliation process removes dead skin cells, refines pores, reduces pigmentation spots and improves the overall skin structure in the long term. The treatment is ideal for blemished, large-pored skin, acne, keratinisation disorders, rosacea, scars and pigmentation disorders. After the treatment, the skin is fresh, firmer, moisturised and more receptive to valuable active ingredients.

What are fruit acid peels and chemical peels?

Fruit acid peels and chemical peels are proven dermatological methods for effective skin improvement. The principle: chemical agents remove the top layer of skin in a controlled manner, removing dead skin cells and stimulating regeneration. The result: smoother, firmer, more youthful skin.

The different types of peels:

AHA peels (alpha hydroxy acids): Based on glycolic acid, lactic acid or mandelic acid. These fruit acids act on the skin's surface and are suitable for sensitive to dry and sun-damaged skin. They improve skin texture, promote moisture balance, support collagen formation and reduce pigmentation spots.

BHA peels (beta hydroxy acids): Based on salicylic acid and act deep into the pores. They penetrate the pores, dissolve blockages and refine them sustainably. Ideal for large pores, impurities, acne and cornification disorders. The anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect is particularly pronounced.

PHA peels (polyhydroxy acids): Consist of large molecules that do not penetrate deeply. Particularly gentle on sensitive, easily irritated skin types.

Special chemical peels:

  • Ferrulac peel: For hyperpigmentation, sun damage and to improve skin texture
  • Azelaic acid peel: Anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial. Ideal for acne, regulates sebum production and reduces pigmentation spots

Treatment depth: We offer superficial to medium-depth peels. The intensity is individually tailored to your skin condition based on the active ingredient, concentration and application time.

Treatment procedure

1. Consultation

We analyse your skin type, skin problems and treatment goals. Together, we determine the appropriate peel (AHA, BHA, PHA) and explain the procedure, risks and realistic results.

2. Preparation & application

The area to be treated is thoroughly cleansed and degreased. After the specified application time, the exfoliating agent is prepared and applied evenly. The application time varies depending on the type and intensity of the exfoliation. During this time, you will feel a slight tingling or warming sensation – this is normal and indicates that the exfoliation is working.

3. Neutralisation & aftercare

After the application time, the active ingredient is stopped and washed off with water or a special neutraliser. A soothing, moisturising care product with SPF is then applied to support the skin barrier regeneration process.

4. Detailed aftercare instructions

You will receive precise instructions for home care: gentle cleansing, intensive moisturising, consistent sun protection (SPF 50+). Depending on the intensity, you may experience a feeling of tightness, temporary redness or slight peeling. Important: Care for your skin exactly as recommended and protect it from the sun.

5. Results & series

Your skin will look fresher and more regenerated after just 7-10 days. For optimal results, we recommend a series of 3-6 treatments at intervals of 2-4 weeks.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions

The treatment is not really painful, but it can cause redness, burning, tingling and tightness during and after application. This is normal and shows that the peel is working. The intensity depends on the strength of the peel. For sensitive skin, we choose a gentler peel.

That depends on your skin type and your needs. AHA peels are suitable for dry, sun-damaged skin and anti-ageing. BHA peels are ideal for oily skin, large pores and acne. PHA peels are for very sensitive skin. Special peels such as azelaic acid are for severe skin blemishes. We will advise you individually.

That depends on the type of peel and its intensity. With superficial peels, the peeling may be minimal or not visible at all. With medium-depth peels, the top layer of skin peels off more noticeably over 3–7 days. The peeling is desirable and part of the regeneration process.

Depending on the intensity of the peel, the healing phase can last from a few hours to a week. Gentler, superficial peels require shorter downtime (1-2 days), while medium-depth peels require longer (5-7 days). No important appointments should be scheduled during this time.

Immediately after treatment, the skin is firmer, better supplied with blood and moisturised. Once the peeling process is complete (approx. 3-7 days), the full results are visible: pigment spots are reduced, inflammation is alleviated, and the skin is smoother and fresher. The final result develops over the following weeks.

That depends greatly on the treatment goal. Some skin problems show significant improvement after the first treatment. For optimal and long-lasting results, we generally recommend a series of 3-6 treatments at intervals of 7-10 days. For scars, 5-6 sessions may be necessary.

We recommend chemical peels during the autumn and winter months. After treatment, the skin is very sensitive to the sun and requires strict sun protection. In summer, UV exposure is too high and the risk of pigmentation changes is increased. Sun protection with SPF 50+ is essential after every peel.

Sun protection is essential – use SPF 50+ every day. Avoid saunas, solariums and intense sun exposure for at least 4 weeks. Do not exercise immediately after treatment. Care for your skin according to our instructions. Do not mechanically pull on peeling skin areas. Avoid additional irritating products. Do not treat new inflammation yourself.

Yes, BHA exfoliants containing salicylic acid are particularly effective against acne. They work deep into the pores, unclog blockages, regulate sebum production and have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Azelaic acid exfoliants are also excellent for treating acne, spots and blemishes.

Yes, definitely. Medium-depth peels or a series of superficial peels can significantly improve acne scars and sunken scars. The skin surface is smoothed and unevenness is reduced. For deeper scars, 5-6 treatments are usually necessary.

Yes, chemical peels are very effective for pigment spots, age spots, melasma and sun spots. The uppermost, pigmented layer of skin is removed and melanin production is inhibited. After just a few treatments, pigmentation disorders are significantly reduced or disappear completely.

We recommend that you refrain from sporting activities immediately after treatment. Wait for the healing period to pass – a few days, depending on the peel. Sweating can irritate sensitive skin and promote infections.

Skin irritations such as redness, burning, itching and tightness are normal and subside within hours to days after superficial peels. With medium-depth peels, the face is not presentable during the peeling phase. Pigment changes, infections or prolonged itching rarely occur. Smoking and sun exposure increase the risk.

The treatment should not be carried out in cases of skin rashes, active skin conditions (herpes, eczema, neurodermatitis), acute viral infections on the face, fresh wounds, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, when taking Roaccutan or photosensitising medication, or during the summer months. Medium-depth peels are not generally suitable for very dark skin.

Yes, chemical peels can be combined excellently with mesotherapy or radiofrequency treatments for enhanced and more lasting results. We would be happy to advise you on the best combination options for your goals.

The results for scars are permanent – the skin remains smooth and firmer. Pigmentation disorders can be permanently reduced or eliminated, provided that sun protection is consistently used. The results for skin blemishes and calluses are long-lasting, but may return without regular care and touch-ups.
