Part of our protocol Fat Reduction
CoolSculpting® is a non-invasive treatment, involving no surgery or needles, that uses controlled cooling to reduce localised fat deposits. The method is known as cryolipolysis: fat cells in the treatment area are cooled while the skin and surrounding tissue are largely protected. The body then gradually breaks down the treated fat cells.
The treatment is suited to stubborn areas of fat that remain despite a balanced diet and exercise. It is designed for body contouring and localised fat reduction, not for weight loss. During the consultation, we assess whether your fat deposits are suitable for the method, which areas could be treated and where its limits lie.

Treatment Areas
Treatment is aimed at selected pockets of fat in the following areas.
Abdomen
CoolSculpting® can reduce fat deposits in the upper and lower abdomen. This supports a slimmer midsection and a more defined contour.
Flanks and Waist
Stubborn fat deposits at the sides of the body can be treated selectively. This can help the waistline appear more clearly shaped.
Thighs and Knees
On the inner and outer thighs and above the knees, the treatment can reduce fat deposits. This can give the legs a more balanced contour.
Double Chin
Beneath the chin, CoolSculpting® can reduce fat deposits so that the chin and jawline may look clearer in profile.
Upper Arms and Back
On the upper arms, the back and around the bra area, the treatment can reduce pockets of fat. This can make the arms look slimmer and the silhouette smoother.
Male Chest
CoolSculpting® can be used for localised fat in the male chest area and may contribute to a more defined contour.
How does CoolSculpting® work?
CoolSculpting® is based on cryolipolysis, which uses controlled cooling to target fat cells. The method takes advantage of the fact that fat cells and the surrounding tissue differ in their sensitivity to cold, so the skin and neighbouring structures are largely protected.
During the treatment, the applicator cools the fat tissue and crystals form inside the fat cells. This damages the affected cells and sets off a natural breakdown process. Over a period of about 2–3 months, the body removes them through the lymphatic system, metabolises them in the liver and excretes them in the normal way.
As the cells are broken down, the volume of the fat layer in the treated area decreases and the body contour can appear slimmer. This change develops over several weeks and months and can be long-lasting.

- Skin and tissue largely protected

Why CoolSculpting® at Aesthetics Medical?
Targeted Body Contouring
CoolSculpting® is aimed at individual stubborn fat deposits and is used for body contouring, not weight loss. We therefore plan it one area at a time.
Controlled Cooling
The treatment requires no surgery, needles or anaesthesia. Cooling is delivered in a controlled way through an applicator placed on the selected area.
Several Areas
CoolSculpting® can be used on various areas of the body. In some people, several areas can be treated at the same time, which shortens the overall treatment time.
Suitability and Limits
Beforehand, we check whether your fat deposits are suitable for cryolipolysis and whether there are medical reasons against it. The limits and possible risks of the method are also discussed.
Support Afterwards
After the treatment, you receive guidance for the following days and know whom to contact with any questions. Follow-up appointments are arranged where they are useful.

What does the treatment involve?
Consultation
We assess the area you would like to treat, discuss your goals and check your suitability. The treatment plan is then agreed.
Preparation
The skin is prepared and a protective gel is applied. The CoolSculpting® applicator is then positioned on the area, and gentle suction draws the fat tissue into the cooling chamber.
Cooling
The fat tissue is then cooled in a controlled way for approximately 35–60 minutes per area. An intense cold sensation, pulling or pinching may be felt at first and tends to ease after a short time. Meanwhile, you can relax or read.
Massage
After cooling, the treated area is briefly massaged. Mild redness, swelling or temporary numbness may occur.
Breakdown of Fat Cells
Everyday activities can normally be resumed straight away. Over the following weeks and months, the body breaks down the damaged cells and the change becomes increasingly visible.
Further Sessions
If several sessions are planned, they typically follow at intervals of 6–8 weeks per area.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the treatment work and how long does it take?
After a protective gel has been applied, the applicator is placed on the area and cools the fatty tissue in a controlled way. A treatment takes approximately 35–60 minutes per area. If several areas are treated, the total time is longer, although in some people several areas can be treated at the same time.
Is the treatment painful, and is anaesthesia used?
The treatment is generally well tolerated. At first, you may feel an intense sensation of cold and slight pulling or pinching from the applicator’s suction. After approximately 5–10 minutes, the area becomes slightly numb and the sensation eases. Anaesthesia is not required.
What risks and side effects are possible?
Common temporary side effects include redness and swelling, numbness lasting from a few days to several weeks, mild pain or discomfort and occasional mild bruising. These reactions normally resolve on their own. Before your appointment, a doctor discusses rarer risks and your suitability for the treatment with you in detail.
What should I consider before the treatment?
Before the appointment, we check whether open wounds or severe skin conditions in the treatment area rule out the treatment. After pregnancy, we recommend waiting at least 3–6 months after giving birth and finishing breastfeeding. You receive instructions on medication and preparation in good time before the treatment.
What should I consider after the treatment?
It is advisable to take things easy on the day of treatment, and light exercise can be resumed from the following day. Regular exercise may support the breakdown process. You will receive further guidance for the following days directly after the session.
How long does recovery take after the treatment?
There is no downtime, and you can continue with your normal day straight after the treatment. Swelling is most noticeable in the first few days and usually subsides within 1–2 weeks. Redness may last a few days and numbness sometimes longer, although in most cases this does not interfere with daily life.

When do results become visible?
Initial changes usually become visible after approximately 1–3 months. Because the body breaks down the fat cells gradually, the contour continues to change over several months. How much the fat layer decreases varies from person to person and depends on factors such as the initial amount of fat tissue and metabolism.
How long do the results last?
The body breaks down and removes the treated fat cells, so the change can be long-lasting. The remaining fat cells can still grow larger if you gain weight. Keeping a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle therefore helps to maintain the new contour.
How many sessions are usually needed?
The number of sessions depends on your goals and the area concerned. Two or more sessions per area are often planned, generally 6–8 weeks apart. We agree the exact plan with you once the area has been assessed.
Who is the treatment suitable for?
CoolSculpting® may be suitable for women and men with localised pockets of fat that persist despite a healthy diet and regular exercise. It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with severe obesity (BMI over 30) or with certain cold-related conditions such as cold urticaria or Raynaud’s disease. We assess your suitability in a consultation beforehand.
How much does the treatment cost?
Prices depend on the area and range from CHF 600 to CHF 800, with many areas charged per side. The small abdomen area costs CHF 600 and the double chin CHF 700. As an aesthetic treatment, CoolSculpting® is usually paid for privately, and we confirm the exact cost after the initial consultation.
