During hyaluronic acid treatment, a filler based on hyaluronic acid is injected precisely into the skin or the tissue beneath it. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and binds water, which keeps the skin hydrated and supple. As a filler, it can restore lost volume, smooth wrinkles and define facial contours.
Typical concerns include nasolabial folds and marionette lines, hollow cheeks or temples, thinner-looking lips and the wish for a clearer contour along the chin and jawline. How do hyaluronic acid fillers work?
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body, including in the skin. It binds water and so provides hydration, elasticity and volume. With age, the amount in the skin decreases, which can lead to a loss of volume and to wrinkles.
For aesthetic treatments, hyaluronic acid is produced using biotechnology. It is well tolerated by body tissue, and the body breaks it down over time. Each product has its own gel consistency, suited either to superficial applications or to deeper volume restoration.
Once injected, the filler binds water and gives the tissue volume and support. This can smooth wrinkles and emphasise contours. The choice of filler and the amount used depend on the area being treated and the effect you would like to achieve.

What does the treatment involve?

Preparation
The skin is thoroughly cleansed and disinfected. If needed, a numbing cream or local anaesthetic is used to make the treatment more comfortable.
Injection
The filler is injected into the appropriate tissue layer with a fine needle or, depending on the area and technique, a blunt cannula. We adjust the amount, depth and placement as we go, and the treatment takes about 20–30 minutes.
Shaping and Assessment
After the injection, the area is checked and gently shaped if necessary. This allows volume, contour and symmetry to be assessed and adjusted during the same appointment.
Aftercare
You receive aftercare recommendations for the first few days. Mild redness, swelling or bruising may occur and usually settles on its own. Depending on the treatment, you can generally return to your normal activities right away.

How does the treatment work and how long does it take?
After the consultation, cleansing and disinfection, the filler is injected into the agreed areas with fine needles or a cannula and then shaped. Shape, volume and symmetry are checked throughout. The treatment itself takes about 20–30 minutes.
Is the treatment painful, and is anaesthesia used?
How much you feel the injections varies from person to person, and discomfort is usually mild. Based on the treatment site and your sensitivity, a numbing cream or local anaesthetic can be used. We discuss with you beforehand whether anaesthesia makes sense in your case.
What risks and side effects are possible?
Mild, temporary reactions at the injection sites are common: swelling, redness, tenderness or small bruises, which usually settle within a few days. Lumps or asymmetry are rare and can generally be treated. More serious complications, including the blockage of a blood vessel or an allergic reaction, are also rare. Your individual risks and suitability are discussed in detail during the medical consultation before treatment.
What should I consider before the treatment?
Please let us know in advance about any medical conditions, allergies, medication (particularly blood thinners) or supplements, a tendency to cold sores, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and any previous filler treatments. If there is an active skin infection or inflammation in the treatment area, the treatment should be postponed. Before your appointment, you also receive clear instructions on how to prepare.
What should I consider after the treatment?
For the first 12 hours, avoid pressure and massage on the treated area, while careful make-up can be applied after 2–4 hours. Avoid intense exercise, sauna and strong heat for around 24–48 hours, and strong sun and tanning beds for several days. After lip treatment, it helps to take extra care when eating and drinking for the first few days.
How long does recovery take after the treatment?
Significant downtime is usually not needed, and you can generally resume your normal activities directly after the treatment. Mild swelling, redness or bruising often settles within 1–2 days, although it can remain visible for a few days, depending on the region treated.

When do results become visible?
An initial effect is visible immediately after the treatment. Mild swelling can alter the appearance during the first few days, so the final result can usually be assessed after about 1–2 weeks.
How long do the results last?
How long a hyaluronic acid filler lasts depends on the product, the treated area, the injection depth and individual factors, including metabolism and skin characteristics. The effect lasts around 6–18 months, varying with product and area, after which the treatment can be repeated if needed. How many sessions are usually needed?
One session is usually sufficient for this treatment. As the effect fades over time, a touch-up can be arranged if needed. We discuss the right timing for this with you.
