In the treatment of expression lines, also known as wrinkle treatment with muscle relaxation, a muscle-relaxing active ingredient is injected into selected facial muscles using very fine needles. It reduces the activity of these muscles so that the lines above them can smooth out. Your natural facial expression is maintained, and the face can look more relaxed.

The method is particularly suitable for dynamic wrinkles caused by repeated muscle movement, including on the forehead, between the eyebrows and at the outer corners of the eyes. It may be considered for pronounced expression lines or when wrinkles are beginning to form. During your consultation, we take a close look at your facial movements and agree together which areas to treat.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the treatment work and how long does it take?

After the consultation, the skin is disinfected and, if needed, prepared with a numbing cream. The active ingredient is then injected into the selected muscles with fine needles, followed by a short observation period. The treatment takes around 20–30 minutes.

Is the treatment painful, and is anaesthesia used?

As very fine needles are used, pain is usually minimal, although everyone experiences it differently. A numbing cream can be applied first if you wish. We will discuss with you whether this is a good option for you.

What risks and side effects are possible?

Common reactions are slight redness at the injection sites, which fades after 1–2 hours, and minimal swelling. Rare side effects include small bruises, temporary asymmetry, slight eyelid fatigue and brief headaches. Serious complications are very rare when the treatment is carried out correctly. We will explain the possible risks to you in advance.

What should I consider before the treatment?

Before the treatment, please let us know if you take blood thinners or certain dietary supplements, or if you tend to get cold sores in the treatment area. These factors are taken into account when planning your treatment. You will also receive clear preparation instructions before your appointment.

What should I consider after the treatment?

For the first 24 hours, avoid make-up on the injection sites, exercise and saunas, keep your head raised and do not massage the treated areas. During the first week, avoid intense sun and facial treatments. If swelling occurs, cooling the area can help.

How long does recovery take after the treatment?

There is usually no downtime, and you can return to work and everyday life straight away. Make-up can be worn from the next day and exercise resumed after 24 hours. Intense physical activity should be avoided on the day of treatment itself.

When do results become visible?

A first effect can often be felt after 2–3 days and seen after 3–7 days. It is usually most noticeable after 1–2 weeks and fully developed after 2–3 weeks. In rare cases, it can take up to 4 weeks.

How long do the results last?

The effect usually lasts 3–6 months. Age, muscle strength, lifestyle and individual metabolism are among the factors that play a role.

How many sessions are usually needed?

As the effect wears off over time, the treatment can be repeated, often 2–3 times a year. How often that makes sense for you depends on your goal and is agreed at the consultation. A follow-up appointment is part of it, and a correction can be made then if needed.

Who is the treatment suitable for?

The treatment may be considered for pronounced expression lines, when wrinkles are beginning to form, or for asymmetry of the facial muscles. It is also used for medical concerns such as migraine, excessive sweating or teeth grinding. Reasons against treatment include pregnancy and breastfeeding, a known allergy to the active ingredient, neuromuscular disorders and active skin infections. We assess your suitability in a personal consultation.

How much does the treatment cost?

Costs depend on the treatment area and start at CHF 200, including for crow’s feet or the chin. The forehead costs CHF 350, treatment of the neck starts from CHF 600, and treatment for excessive sweating costs CHF 800. As an aesthetic treatment, wrinkle treatment is usually paid for privately.
