Hyperhidrosis treatment is intended for people affected by excessive sweating of the underarms, hands or feet. Fine needles are used to place an active ingredient in the skin of the areas concerned. It inhibits the signals through which nerve cells activate the sweat glands, so that less sweat is produced there.
The treatment may be an option if heavy sweating affects your everyday life: visible sweat patches or clammy hands when shaking hands are typical situations. Treatment areas, suitability, duration of effect and possible risks are discussed with you by a doctor beforehand.
Treatment Areas
Excessive sweating most often affects the following three areas.
Underarms
Excessive underarm sweating, known medically as axillary hyperhidrosis, is the most common form. Treatment can reduce sweat production in this area, so that fewer sweat patches show on clothing.
Hands
In palmar hyperhidrosis, the palms sweat heavily, which can be distressing when shaking hands, at work or in private life. After injections into the palms, sweating there can decrease.
Feet
Plantar hyperhidrosis affects the soles of the feet and is often accompanied by unpleasant odour. Treatment can reduce sweating on the feet and make wearing shoes more comfortable.
How does hyperhidrosis treatment work?
Sweating is a natural process that cools the body. In hyperhidrosis, the sweat glands produce considerably more sweat than is needed for temperature regulation, regardless of the temperature or physical activity.
The treatment involves injecting a special active ingredient into the skin where excessive sweating occurs. It inhibits the release of acetylcholine, a messenger substance that nerve cells use to stimulate the sweat glands. As a consequence, less sweat is produced in the treated areas.
The effect begins within a few days and lasts for several months. Because the treatment is minimally invasive and performed on an outpatient basis, you can return to your everyday routine afterwards. If you would like to combine it with other aesthetic treatments, we plan this individually.

What does the treatment involve?
Consultation
In the initial consultation, we assess the extent of your sweating, discuss your expectations and explain the effect and possible side effects. We also check for contraindications, including blood thinners or certain antibiotics.
Preparation
The skin in the treatment area is thoroughly disinfected. If you wish, we apply an anaesthetic cream beforehand to make the injections more comfortable.
Injections
Using particularly fine needles, we administer the active ingredient at short intervals across the treatment area. The underarms need around 15–20 injection points per side, the hands and feet correspondingly more, and the session takes around 30 minutes.
After the Treatment
Afterwards, you receive advice for the following 24 hours. On the day of treatment, avoid sport and strenuous physical exertion; otherwise, you can go about your usual activities.
Follow-Up
An optional check-up is available after 2–4 weeks. Together with you, we then review how well the treatment has worked.

How does the treatment work and how long does it take?

Is the treatment painful, and is anaesthesia used?

The most common side effects are mild redness, swelling or small bruises at the injection sites, which usually subside on their own within a few days. Serious complications are extremely rare. As the treated areas make up only a small part of the body’s surface, the body can generally continue to regulate its temperature normally. Your individual risks and suitability are discussed in detail with you before the treatment.
What should I consider before the treatment?
Blood-thinning medication and supplements can increase the risk of bruising at the injection sites. Please discuss with your treating doctor beforehand whether and how their use should be adjusted. Also let us know which medicines you take, as certain antibiotics can also be a contraindication.
What should I consider after the treatment?
After the treatment, you receive guidance for the first 24 hours. Please avoid sport and heavy physical exertion on the same day. You can otherwise continue your daily routine as usual, and you know whom to contact if you have questions.
How long does recovery take after the treatment?
Downtime is usually not needed, and you can return to your everyday routine straight away. Mild redness, swelling or small bruises may be visible for a few days, and every skin reacts slightly differently. Sport should be avoided only on the day of treatment.
