A tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, is a proven surgical procedure to remove excess skin and tighten the abdominal muscles. A full tummy tuck addresses the entire abdominal wall, while a mini abdominoplasty focuses only on the area below the navel.
The procedure may be considered by women and men who have excess skin or lax tissue on the abdomen after pregnancy, major weight loss or age-related changes. The planning, position of the scar, recovery and possible risks are discussed with Dr. med. (I) Ranieri Mazzei in detail beforehand.
Surgical Procedure
This treatment is a surgical procedure performed under medical direction. Procedure, anaesthesia and aftercare are discussed in detail during your personal consultation.

Treatment Areas
The consultation clarifies which variant and which areas are suitable for you.
Lower Abdomen
A mini abdominoplasty tightens only the lower abdominal area below the navel, leaving the upper abdominal region untreated.
Entire Abdominal Wall
The full version also includes the upper abdominal region. Where necessary, the navel is repositioned as part of the procedure.
Abdominal Muscles
In addition to removing excess skin and lax tissue, the procedure can include tightening of the abdominal muscles. This is discussed with you individually.
What is a tummy tuck?
During abdominoplasty, excess skin and lax tissue are surgically removed from the abdomen; where needed, the abdominal muscles are also tightened. Common reasons for this kind of excess skin are pregnancy, major weight loss or the natural loss of skin elasticity.
There are two variants, and the choice depends on your individual findings. A mini abdominoplasty is limited to the area below the navel, whereas a full tummy tuck also includes the upper abdomen and may involve repositioning the navel.
The scar runs horizontally across the lower abdomen and can usually be hidden by clothing. In many cases, additional liposuction on the hips or flanks is advisable to achieve a more harmonious body contour; this is planned individually.
- Removal of excess skin
- Muscle tightening where indicated
- Mini or full variant
- Horizontal scar on the lower abdomen
- Usually under general anaesthesia

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the procedure work and how long does it take?
In the consultation, we discuss your history, your wishes and the appropriate variant. The operation itself is usually performed under general anaesthesia and takes between 2 and 4 hours, depending on its extent. If it is combined with liposuction, the operating time may be longer.
What type of anaesthesia is used for the procedure?
The operation is usually performed under general anaesthesia by experienced specialists in anaesthesiology at a certified surgical centre. In some cases, light sedation (twilight sleep) may be used for smaller corrections. You will learn which type of anaesthesia is intended for you while your operation is being prepared.
What risks and side effects are possible?
As with any surgical procedure, there are risks, including infection, wound-healing problems, scarring problems or a seroma, which is a collection of fluid under the skin. With professional execution and experienced care, complications are rare. Before the procedure, we discuss the risks that apply to you in detail.
What should I consider before the procedure?
Before the procedure, we go through your health history and anatomy. You receive the specific instructions on how to prepare, including on medication, in person during your consultation.
What should I consider after the procedure?
For the first 2 weeks, you should avoid physical exertion and wear a special compression garment. Exercise and physically demanding work should not be resumed until at least 8 weeks have passed. Your healing progress is checked at the agreed follow-up appointments. You receive further aftercare advice in detail during your consultation.
How long does recovery take after the procedure?
The first phase of healing takes around 2 weeks. Light activities can usually be resumed after 10–14 days, while physically demanding work and exercise should wait at least 8 weeks. Complete healing can take several months.

When do results become visible?
The tightened abdominal contour is visible immediately after the procedure. The final result develops over 3–6 months, as healing takes place in phases. The scar lies horizontally on the lower abdomen, is generally hidden under clothing and fades considerably over time with careful aftercare.
How long do the results last?
With a stable weight, the result of the procedure is long-lasting. Weight changes or a pregnancy after the procedure may affect the result. We discuss the factors relevant to your situation with you during planning.
Is more than one procedure needed?
Usually, a single procedure is sufficient. Occasionally, a minor correction may be needed. A tummy tuck can also be combined with other procedures, which is planned individually.
Who is the procedure suitable for?
A tummy tuck is suitable for women and men with lax skin or excess tissue in the abdominal area. Typical reasons include major weight loss, pregnancy or a natural loss of skin elasticity. In a personal consultation, we clarify whether the procedure is right for you and whether a mini or a full tummy tuck suits you.
How much does the procedure cost?
The price is available on request, as the cost depends on the extent of the procedure, the technique chosen and any additional services. You will receive a transparent cost breakdown as part of the consultation. Aesthetic procedures are usually paid for privately; in medically justified cases, we discuss the options individually.
