Liposuction is a surgical procedure for a defined silhouette in which you feel at ease. It removes stubborn localised fat deposits that do not shift even with exercise, discipline and a balanced diet. It may be considered for the abdomen, flanks and thighs, and also for more delicate areas like the chin or upper arms. The procedure is not intended as a way to lose weight.
Our approach combines medical precision with an aesthetic sense of natural body proportions. The appropriate technique, type of anaesthesia and extent of the procedure depend on your anatomy, skin quality, tissue and general health. During the surgical consultation, we discuss your contour goal, incision sites, possible combined procedures, recovery time, compression garments, alternatives and risks.
Surgical Procedure
This treatment is a surgical procedure performed under medical direction. Procedure, anaesthesia and aftercare are discussed in detail during your personal consultation.

Treatment Areas
Liposuction may be considered for women and men whose localised fat deposits persist despite a healthy diet and exercise.
Abdomen and Hips
The abdomen and lower abdomen, as well as the hips, known as “love handles”, are among the areas treated most often. The aim is a harmonious midsection with a defined waist and a slimmer silhouette.
Thighs and Buttocks
On the inner and outer thighs, the so-called saddlebags, as well as on the buttocks and gluteal fold, liposuction brings more harmony to the leg line and a natural buttock contour.
Knees and Calves
Fat can also be removed in a targeted way from the knees and calves. This makes the legs look slimmer and better proportioned.
Back and Upper Arms
On the back and in the bra area, the procedure reduces bothersome rolls of fat and smooths the contour under clothing. On the upper arms, it is particularly suitable for loose fatty tissue related to age or hormones.
Chin and Neck
On the face, liposuction is mainly used on the chin and neck. It reduces a double chin and creates a clearly defined facial profile.
Male Chest
In men with an enlarged chest (gynaecomastia), liposuction can give the chest a flatter, more defined contour. If needed, it is combined with the removal of glandular breast tissue.
What is liposuction?
In liposuction, fat cells are surgically removed from selected areas of the body to change the contour of those areas. It is designed to shape specific areas of localised fat. How the treated area looks in the long term also depends on weight fluctuations, ageing and individual healing.
We work with a range of established methods: the tumescent technique, water-assisted liposuction (WAL), power-assisted liposuction (PAL) and ultrasound-assisted liposuction. Which one is used depends on the body area and tissue. The type of anaesthesia also depends on the extent of the procedure and ranges from local anaesthesia to sedation or general anaesthesia.
Afterwards, the skin usually retracts on its own, depending on age, skin elasticity and the area treated. If its ability to retract is limited, additional measures such as skin tightening or device-based treatments can be discussed. In suitable patients, the removed fat can also be processed and used for autologous fat treatments: breast augmentation, buttock shaping or the treatment of facial wrinkles.

Why liposuction at Aesthetics Medical?
Experienced Specialist
The procedure is performed by Dr. med. (I) Ranieri Mazzei, Medical Director of Aesthetics Medical and specialist FMH/ISAPS in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. He has over 25 years of experience in aesthetic surgery.
Choice of Technique
We work with several established liposuction techniques and choose the method to suit the body region and type of tissue. This allows the procedure to be adapted to the characteristics of each area.
Focus on Contour
The focus is on the shape of your body. Planning is based on your proportions and on the contour goal we agree together.
Clear Information
During the consultation, we also talk about the limitations of liposuction, alternatives and possible risks. This gives you a clear basis for your decision.
Anaesthesia to Suit the Extent
Depending on its extent, the procedure can be performed under local anaesthesia, sedation or general anaesthesia. We agree the suitable option with you.
Supported Recovery
After the procedure, you receive clear guidance on the compression garment, rest and activity. Follow-up appointments accompany you through the healing period.

What does the procedure involve?
Consultation
In the surgical consultation, we assess your anatomy, skin quality and tissue and discuss your contour goal. We also cover incision sites, anaesthesia, recovery time, alternatives and risks.
Preparation
Before the procedure, we recommend avoiding nicotine. Blood-thinning medication is only paused after consulting the treating doctor, and if treatment in the breast area is planned, a mammogram beforehand is advisable.
Procedure
The procedure is carried out under the type of anaesthesia agreed beforehand. Using the technique chosen for this part of the body, the fat is removed through the incision sites discussed in advance.
Compression
Afterwards, you wear a compression garment, which reduces swelling and helps to stabilise the new body shape. Consistent wear for at least four to six weeks is recommended.
Aftercare
Physical rest is important, and light activity is possible again after a few days. Saunas and sun exposure should be avoided, and it is important to attend all follow-up appointments.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the procedure work and how long does it take?
After the consultation and preparation, the fat is removed under the agreed anaesthesia, using a technique suited to the body area and tissue. Depending on its extent, the procedure usually takes 1–3 hours. You then wear a compression garment.
What type of anaesthesia is used for the procedure?
Depending on the extent, liposuction is performed under local anaesthesia, sedation or general anaesthesia. We decide together with you which option is suitable.
What risks and side effects are possible?
Common temporary reactions after liposuction are bruising (haematomas) and swelling, which subside as healing progresses. Altered skin sensation or temporary asymmetry may also occur. Serious complications, including infections, are rare. Your individual risks and suitability are discussed in detail during the medical consultation before the procedure.
What should I consider before the procedure?
Before the procedure, we go through the exact process with you and answer your questions. We advise avoiding nicotine and pausing blood-thinning medication only after consulting the treating doctor. If treatment of the breast area or a fat transfer to the breast is planned, we recommend a mammogram beforehand.
What should I consider after the procedure?
Physical rest is important after liposuction, and heat such as saunas or sun exposure should be avoided. Wear the compression garment consistently for at least four to six weeks, as it reduces swelling and supports even healing. Drinking enough fluids and attending all follow-up appointments also help the healing process.
How long does recovery take after the procedure?
After liposuction, you should expect 3–7 days of downtime. Light activity is possible after just a few days, while intensive exercise should be paused for around three to four weeks, depending on the area treated. We will discuss with you personally when you can return to full activity.

When do results become visible?
A change in contour is visible immediately after the procedure, and the final result develops over 3–6 months. During this time, the skin generally retracts on its own; how well it does so depends on age, skin elasticity and the area treated. The compression garment reduces swelling and helps to stabilise the new body shape.
How long do the results last?
As a rule, fat cells that have been removed do not grow back. A stable lifestyle with a healthy diet and regular exercise is important for a long-term result. Weight fluctuations, ageing and individual healing affect how the treated area looks over time.
Is more than one procedure needed?
We only perform repeat liposuction when it is medically appropriate and your skin quality and general condition allow it. We recommend an interval of several months between two procedures so that the tissue has time to recover. We will go through the details with you in the consultation.
Who is the procedure suitable for?
Liposuction may be an option for women and men with stubborn fat deposits that remain despite a healthy diet and regular exercise. Its purpose is contouring, and it is not intended for weight loss. Your anatomy, skin quality, tissue and general health determine whether it is suitable for you.
How much does the procedure cost?
The price of liposuction is available on request, as it depends on the planned procedure. We will tell you the exact cost after your consultation. Aesthetic procedures are usually paid for privately, and in medically justified cases we discuss the options with you individually.
