Sculptra® is an injectable collagen stimulator based on poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biodegradable active substance. After injection, PLLA prompts the body to build its own collagen, which contributes to the firmness and structure of the skin. Over time, this can improve skin quality and make the skin appear firmer, smoother and more defined.
The treatment is particularly suitable if you would like a natural, gradual improvement in your skin. Typical concerns include reduced skin firmness, fine lines and wrinkles, or a loss of volume and definition. During the consultation, we assess your skin and decide together which areas to treat and how many sessions are appropriate.

Treatment Areas
Before treatment, we clarify together which of the following areas are suitable for you.
Cheeks and Temples
Where the cheeks and temples have lost volume or firmness, the stimulated collagen production can help the face appear fuller, with clearer contours.
Nasolabial Folds
Nasolabial folds run from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth. As new collagen forms, the skin in this area can gradually appear firmer and smoother.
Jawline
Sculptra® can be used along the jawline when the contour has lost definition. With newly formed collagen, the jawline can appear more defined again.
Neck and Décolleté
On the neck and décolleté, the treatment may be considered when skin firmness has decreased or fine lines have appeared. The aim is to improve firmness and skin texture in these areas.
Backs of the Hands
The backs of the hands can also lose volume and firmness. Here, Sculptra® can help the skin appear fuller and firmer again.
Body Areas
Sculptra® can also be used on areas of the body that have lost volume, where it likewise stimulates the body’s own collagen production.
How does Sculptra® work?
Sculptra® is a collagen stimulator containing the active substance poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). PLLA is biocompatible, meaning compatible with body tissue, and biodegradable: the body breaks it down by itself over time.
After injection into the intended layers of the skin, PLLA stimulates the body’s own collagen production. The newly formed collagen can gradually improve skin firmness and texture.
Because the skin produces this collagen itself, changes develop step by step over several weeks and can look natural. Treatment usually involves several sessions, which are planned individually.

Why Sculptra® at Aesthetics Medical?
The Skin’s Own Collagen
Sculptra® supports the skin’s own regenerative process by stimulating collagen production. This new collagen can improve skin firmness and texture.
Planning Around Your Skin
The number of sessions and the choice of areas depend on your skin’s condition and your aims. The length of an appointment varies with the number and size of the areas treated.
Medical Advice
The suitability, expected course and possible risks of Sculptra® treatment are discussed with you by a doctor.
Restrained Dosing
We take a restrained approach to dosing and usually spread treatment over several sessions. The aim is for you to look refreshed, not changed.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the treatment work and how long does it take?
After the consultation, the treatment area is cleansed, disinfected and, if needed, locally anaesthetised. Sculptra® is then injected in a targeted way into the areas agreed beforehand. A session takes around one hour, and the exact time varies with the extent of the treatment.
Is the treatment painful, and is anaesthesia used?
The treatment is generally well tolerated, with sensations varying individually. Pain or tenderness may be felt where the injections are given. If needed, lidocaine, a local anaesthetic, is used to make the treatment more comfortable. We discuss in advance whether anaesthesia makes sense for you.
What risks and side effects are possible?
Temporary swelling, redness, bruising or tenderness may occur at the injection sites. These reactions usually settle within a few days to a few weeks. Small nodules or irregularities develop only rarely and should be checked by a doctor. Your individual risks and suitability are discussed in detail with the doctor before the treatment.
What should I consider before the treatment?
The first step is a personal consultation in which we discuss your skin, your starting point and your goals. Ahead of the planned appointment, you receive clear instructions on medication and sun exposure. Anything else that applies in your case is clarified beforehand in person.
What should I consider after the treatment?
Massage of the treated area may be recommended, based on the area and your plan, to support even distribution. If you notice any nodules or lumps, a doctor should assess them. You will receive your personal aftercare instructions from us after the session.
How long does recovery take after the treatment?
Usually, no significant downtime is needed after a Sculptra® treatment. Swelling, redness or bruising at the injection sites may be temporarily visible and typically settles within a few days to a few weeks.
Show all 11 questions
When do results become visible?
Sculptra® works gradually because the skin first has to form new collagen. Visible changes may appear after around one month. Over the following weeks, the skin can appear firmer, smoother and more defined.
How long do the results last?
The effect of Sculptra® can last up to two years. This effect comes from new collagen formed by the skin itself. How long it lasts in your case varies from person to person.
How many sessions are usually needed?
Two to three sessions are often recommended, usually at intervals of around six weeks. The exact number depends on your skin condition and treatment goals. Together, we decide on the right number for you.
Who is the treatment suitable for?
Sculptra® may be suitable for adults looking for a gradual improvement in skin firmness, texture or volume. This may be the case with reduced skin firmness, fine lines and wrinkles, volume loss or certain skin irregularities. We assess your suitability during a personal consultation, based on your skin, starting point and goals.
How much does the treatment cost?
Treatment with Sculptra® is available from CHF 900. As an aesthetic treatment, it is usually paid for privately. We give you the exact cost after the consultation, once your plan has been agreed.
